Overview

This survey course covers a broad sampling of topics associated with natural resources and conflict, humanitarian assistance, and post-conflict peacebuilding. Topics covered include the role of natural resources and the environment in peacebuilding; the environmental consequences of war; negotiation and mediation techniques for natural resource management; humanitarian assistance and environmental conflict between refugee and host communities; linkages between specific resources (e.g., land, water, coffee, and forests), conflict, and peacebuilding; conflict prevention, theories on climate change and conflict; and case studies from the deep past.
