Overview

This course focuses on the emerging interdisciplinary field of environmental peacemaking and identifies ways that the environment provides opportunities for building bridges of collaboration between conflicting parties. The course examines interactions of violence, conflict, peace, security, and the natural environment. Some of the specific topics covered include: power, the environment and conflict or cooperation; regional environmental cooperation and peacemaking; conflict prevention, gender, security and justice; environmental peacebuilding; climate change and security; war economics and conflict transformation; peace parks; culture, livelihoods, and environmental conflict decision making; greening peace interventions; and assessing peace and conflict impacts.
