It is our great honor to invite you to participate in a powerful new initiative taking place this September in Cyprus: the Cyprus Women Environmental Peacemakers (CWEP) project. Funded by the European Union under the PLACE Programme in Cyprus, CWEP aims to empower women as vital agents of peacebuilding and environmental sustainability.

This project seeks to foster cross-communal collaboration between Greek Cypriot ( WIFT CY Women in Film and Television Cyprus ) and Turkish Cypriot ( Environmental Society of Lefka Association ) communities through the creation of a Green Memorial Area honoring the 975 missing persons from both communities — each represented by a planted olive tree, the symbol of peace. This living monument will serve as a space for healing, remembrance, and unity.

Your voice and presence would be invaluable in helping us elevate the message of this initiative on an international level.

Key Outcomes and Activities:

Policy Paper & Advocacy:

A comprehensive policy paper will be developed as an outcome of the two-day conference and focus groups. It will be submitted to: The Bi-Communal Technical Committees on Environment and Education Relevant European Parliament Committees (FEMM, CULT, AGRI, DROI). It will outline clear recommendations for incorporating environmental peacebuilding into the reconciliation process and advocating for the Green Memorial’s long-term impact.

Seed Ball Symbolism & Community Engagement:

In a symbolic act of renewal, participants will create and disperse seed balls in the buffer zone — a gesture of remembrance and hope for shared growth. Seed ball workshops and dispersal events will actively engage both communities, emphasizing shared responsibility and healing through nature.

Highlights Video – “Growing Bridges, Planting Peace”:

A dynamic online video will feature key female figures — educators, activists, and peacebuilders — highlighting how nature can unite a divided island and how women lead in both peace and environmental justice.

The video will be shared through: Women in Film and Television International, EU forums, UN events, global educational platforms, social media campaigns, and press outreach.

Public Awareness & Youth Education:

Educational programs and media campaigns will inspire the next generation and engage the broader public in peacebuilding through environmental stewardship. CWEP is more than a project — it is a movement for healing and unity through nature and female leadership. Your commitment to justice and human rights makes you an ideal voice for this cause. Your participation — whether in person, via video message, or through symbolic endorsement — would greatly empower this initiative and the communities it serves.
