The impacts of climate change are also exacerbating drivers of displacement, both within and beyond national borders. Over the past 10 years, weather-related disasters have caused 220 million internal displacements – equivalent to approximately 60,000 displacements per day. In 2023, more than a quarter of  these occurred in fragile and conflict-affected settings. This displacement can be either temporary or protracted, with people often trying to stay as close to their communities as possible, with the aim of returning to their land and homes at the first available opportunity.
