Afghanistan continues to face severe levels of child acute malnutrition, driven by interconnected dietary, livelihood, health and environmental factors. This executive brief presents findings from a study conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the joint FAO–United Nations Children’s Fund–World Food Programme First Foods Initiative, funded by the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The study examines how seasonal livelihood systems influence child nutrition outcomes and highlights the importance of integrated Livelihoods-for-Nutrition and One Health approaches to prevent acute malnutrition and strengthen household resilience.
