This report presents the methodology and results of a diamond resource potential and production capacity assessment of the alluvial diamonds deposits of the Central African Republic (CAR). The assessment was conducted by the USGS in cooperation with the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières and the Central African Direction Générale des Mines, in support of the Kimberley Process, under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. Using a methodology integrating geologic evidence, digital terrain modeling, and field mapping, it was estimated that approximately 39,000,000 carats of diamonds remain in CAR, with an annual production capability of 840,000 carats per year.
