The theory of environmental peacebuilding holds that transboundary environmental challenges can serve as a catalyst for cooperation and conflict resolution. Formed in response to perspectives that frame environmental scarcity and resource competition as sources of conflict, environmental peacebuilding aims to transform social and environmental conditions to create more just, equitable and sustainable futures.
