Free Bodies, Free Territories: Reflections on the Right to Land, Water and Territories for Gender and Sexually Diverse People in Rural Contexts

How can land and agrarian reform create safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community? What does it mean to struggle for recognition and rights to land, water, seeds, forests, and territories for same-sex attracted, trans and gender non-conforming peoples living in rural areas? How can queer love flourish in agrarian and rural contexts?

These, among other, questions were the focus of a parallel session organised by the International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty at the International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD) held in Cartagena, Colombia between 24 – 28 February 2026.
