In India’s changing climate, where failed monsoons, raging rivers and searing heatwaves define daily life – women stand at the frontlines of survival and sustainability. They sow parched fields, revive mangroves and keep families and communities together. Yet behind the praise for their strength lies a hard reality: women are carrying India’s green transition alone. Their labour sustains climate justice, but entrenched inequalities value their endurance, while denying them real power and decision-making rights. This essay argues that without gender-just climate finance, land rights, and decision-making parity, India’s green revolution remains unfinished, converting women’s ingenuity into moral symbolism rather than structural transformation.
