Sudan has warned its nationals against illegal expansion of traditional mining activities outside Sudanese territories and described the phenomenon as a “time bomb” that would negatively impact on relations with neighbouring countries. Sudan’s consul in Chad’s city of Abeché, Omer al-Farouk Mohamed, disclosed they evacuated 3250 out of 10.000 traditional miners from Chad and Niger last year, pointing to the danger posed by the presence of Sudanese miners in those countries.
