The Philippines: DENR Exec Highlights Link Between Women Leaders and Environmental Protection

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Strategic Communications Marilou Erni emphasized that environmental protection and peacebuilding are deeply interconnected with women as leaders and catalysts of transformation.

Erni delivered the keynote address during a side event titled “Women, Peace, and the Environment: Strengthening Climate-Responsive and Gender-Inclusive Environmental Action” of the National Conference on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) held on October 30 in Pasay City.

“These same women are also among our greatest sources of strength and innovation. They are the first to respond when disaster strikes, the first to rebuild communities, and the first to mobilize for environmental protection and peacebuilding,” Erni said.
