Myanmar: Armed Ethnic KNU Criticises Land Law Amendment

The armed ethnic Karen National Union (KNU) on Sunday called for the abolition of the Vacant, Fallow and Virgin Lands Management Law because it contravenes the national peace process. The 2012 law, as amended by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (bicameral legislature) on September 11, violates the initial ceasefire between the government and KNU in 2012 and the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), the KNU said in a statement.
