National Environmental Protection Authority (NEPA) officials said Afghanistan’s water resources, soil and air quality have fallen victim to the war and that the thousands of mines and IEDs in the country have had an extremely bad effect on the environment, especially on underground water. NEPA’s planning department head Mohammad Kazim Humayun said: “Our forests have decreased because of war and our natural resources are under threat. Mines (IEDs) can negatively affect underground water and even futuregenerations will be affected,” said Humayun.
