Sierra Leone News: NMA Provides Community Development Funds…Warns Chiefs Not to Misuse the Money

The Natural Mineral Agency (NMA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) has dished out just over Le1 billion (Le1,124,841,246) as diamond area development fund to 13 chiefdoms. Addressing the paramount chiefs and the councils the Regional Manager of NMA, east, Alie Kamara, said this is the money that the government collects on behalf of the community from the licenses obtained from the artisanal and small scale mining. The money, he said, will also act as an incentive to encourage the chiefdom authorities to help the Ministry of Mines to combat illicit mining and the smuggling of precious minerals.
