Iranian women are among the most courageous freedom fighters of our time. No group has challenged the Islamic Republic more consistently and more systematically than women. For forty-seven years, they have stood on the front lines of resistance, not sporadically, but generation after generation. Women were the first to take to the streets, just weeks after the Islamic Revolution in 1979, to protest the draconian laws being imposed upon them.
