Indus Waters Treaty and the New Fault Line in South Asian Security

It is well known that water is the next potential source of conflict in the world where climate change, population increase and the shortage of natural resources are inevitable. For the region of South Asia, water has always played a significant role in politics. Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan under the mediation of the World Bank, despite several wars, breakdowns of the diplomatic relations and political crises, has become one of the best examples of cooperation and institutionalism between the two countries.
